Visions of a Golden Shore
The end of the Civil War and the subsequent end to slavery represent a huge transition in the history of African-Americans. Visitors cross a symbolic river, walking over a "bridge."
This bridge represents the many struggles, or “river crossings” throughout the slavery period that made it possible to reach this dawn of freedom.
In this space of remembrance and inspiration, visitors pay homage to the sacrifices of those who came before, and look to a promising future.
